Season: 6 Episode: 074
There’s a common misconception that Christians and Muslims worship the same God, but is that true? Laura Powell with Women in Apologetics discusses the similarities and differences between the two and what every Christian should know about their faith.
“When we see who the Bible says God is and who the Quran says God is, we realize we are talking about two entirely different beings.”
“The key attributes of the Christian God and the Islamic God are mutually exclusive.”
“The God of the Bible knows and wants to be known.”
“We’re not just asking Muslims to switch to Friday mosque services to Sunday church services. We are asking them to give up everything to follow Jesus.’
“It’s rare for someone to leave Islam for Christianity and become a lukewarm Christian.”
“More Muslims have left Islam in our lifetime than at any other time in history.”
“Muslims who leave Islam for Christianity have the greatest impact.”

Her considerable experience in ministering to Muslim women around the world has given her a unique voice in the world of apologetics as an Islam specialist. Her writing can be found at AnAffairWithReason.com, and her new course, Islam Foundations, will be released this May at WomenInApologetics.com. This course equips Christians to effectively challenge Islam and to defend Christianity to Muslims.
Before we get into the meat of today’s episode, can you tell us what led you to study and get involved in the Islamic religion?
The common misconception among Christians when it comes to Islam is that we share the same God. Why is this untrue?
What are some of the most identifiable differences between the Islamic faith compared to Christianity?
One of the things I talked to my husband about in regards to atheism is why do atheists care that I believe in God? If they believe that after they die there’s nothing, what do they care if I believe I go to heaven after I die? But then I read that after the 9/11 attacks, atheists realized just how dangerous believing in God can be to society. They watched in horror as planes flew into buildings and killed thousands. Is that a realistic depiction of all muslims? What are atheists missing when it comes to Christianity and terrorism or any evil?
I once attended a conference where a man said that muslims are so deep into their religion, it is almost impossible for them to get saved. Do you agree or disagree with that assessment?
Can you tell us about the upcoming Islam Foundation course and why the listener should check into it?
